Person-centred Counselling
for
Young People

Growing up can be challenging. Young people face a range of pressures—academic stress, social expectations, family issues, self-identity struggles, and mental health concerns. Person-centred counselling provides a safe, non-judgemental space where young people can explore their thoughts and feelings, helping them to gain clarity, confidence, and emotional resilience.
How Can It Help Young People?
Person-centred counselling can be particularly effective for young people experiencing:
Anxiety and stress – School, exams, friendships, and family expectations can feel overwhelming. Counselling provides a space to process worries and develop coping strategies.
Addiction - Struggling with alcohol, drugs, vaping, gaming, social media, gambling or pornography? Counselling can help with exploring the impulses, feelings and understanding the addiction, to then develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Low self-esteem and confidence issues – Young people often struggle with self-worth. Person-centred counselling helps them recognize their strengths and build self-acceptance.
Family and relationship difficulties – Changes in family dynamics, arguments, or friendship issues can be difficult to navigate. Counselling offers a space to explore feelings without judgement.
Identity and self-discovery – Adolescence is a time of self-exploration. Whether dealing with personal values, gender identity, or sexual orientation, young people can explore their thoughts safely.
Grief and loss – Losing a loved one, a pet, or experiencing significant change (e.g., parental separation) can be deeply upsetting. Counselling provides comfort and a way to process emotions.
Depression and low mood – When emotions feel too heavy, person-centred counselling offers a supportive space to express feelings and find ways to move forward.
Self-harm and difficult emotions – Young people sometimes struggle to express pain in healthy ways. Counselling provides understanding and support without judgement.
A Safe and Confidential Space
Young people often feel unheard or misunderstood. Person-centred counselling ensures they are listened to without pressure or expectation. It is a confidential space where they can be themselves, free from judgement. While confidentiality is respected, safeguarding is always a priority, and we take steps to protect a young person if they are at serious risk of harm.
What to Expect in a Session
Sessions are tailored to the individual and move at their own pace. There is no pressure to talk about anything before they are ready. The counsellor will:
* Listen with empathy and without judgement
* Provide a warm, accepting environment
* Encourage self-expression and personal growth
* Support the young person in finding their own solutions
